How our data works

Every ingredient in SoapIndex is verified against peer-reviewed chemistry references, manufacturer technical data sheets, and established soap-making resources before being published. SAP values follow published saponification tables and are cross-referenced across multiple sources.

Quality metrics — hardness, cleansing, conditioning, bubbly lather, creamy lather, and longevity — are calculated from the fatty acid composition of each oil using the methodology widely used in the soap-making community.

Found an error? Every ingredient page links to its sources and has a community flag system. We review and correct flagged data within days, not months.
