Essential oils provide natural fragrance and therapeutic properties to handmade soap. Each essential oil has an IFRA maximum safe usage rate for rinse-off products like soap. Lavender and tea tree are beginner favorites, while spice oils like cinnamon and clove require very low usage rates. Always check flash points for cold process soap, as some essential oils may not survive saponification temperatures.
